Overview / Curriculum statementOur aim is to ensure that all learners: • Have an understanding of the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They should be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.

Key Stage 3Our curriculum follows the National Curriculum programme of study at the appropriate level for each individual pupil. Assessment at Key Stage 3Students are assessed both formally and informally. Formal assessments in the Science department are carried out at the end of each term. Assessments can be short written summative exams, or through specific activities such as an assessed investigative piece of work. This ensures students receive regular checking of their knowledge with quality and purposeful feedback. Progression is then shown on each pupil's rubrics sheet. Students are also assessed for learning informally with an array of techniques. These include open & closed questioning and online methods

Key Stage 4 &. 5Students follow either the AQA GCSE Biology, Chemistry or Physics course. Some learners are following WJEC Entry Pathways Qualifications in Science Today. Assessment at Key Stage 4 & 5At GCSE level students are entered for their final examination papers at different levels, according to prior individual progress and attainment Higher level will award grades 3-9 (with 9 being the highest) Foundation level will award grades 1-5. For the WJEC Entry Pathways Qualifications in Science Today, the students develop a portfolio of coursework evidencing the completion of assessments objectives |
